All Star Weekend Recap Pt. 2 of 3
With the rest of our team joining us that morning, the Friday commencing all the All-Star festivities promised to really set the tone for the rest of the trip. Some of the gang went to pick up another one of our comrades from the Orlando airport after leaving from New Jersey on a 7 A.M. flight, demonstrating just how dedicated he was to making the most of his time in tropical Florida. The rest of the crew was left back at our familiar West Gate resort grounds waking up to undeniably beautiful Orlando sunrays, as it was a very warm day indeed. Once we were all together and settled, we confidently ventured back to our favored Dominican spot, Tu Casa for lunchtime starvation cures. After grubbing on what was once again a hearty Caribbean meal based around rice, beans and platanos, we headed directly to the Flight Lab to greet our next Jordan Superstar.
As it goes without saying, the Florida Mall is a huge place. It houses so many stores and franchises that getting lost within it’s maze-like architecture is only part of the process. Thanks to the good work done by the folks at Foot Locker, we were able to step away from the Flight Lab a some point and see the Big Bang exhibit which was nothing short of breathtaking. However, this was all in anticipation of “Flash” himself, Dwyane Wade of the Miami Heat who arrived at the Jordan Flight Lab just past 5 p.m. accompanied by Jadakiss and DJ Khaled. Interestingly enough, he drew the biggest crowd of all the Jordan superstars that weekend, attracting people from all over the mall to crowd around the entrance. This is not to mention the already hundred-some fans that were in the store pleading for balls and related memorabilia to be signed by the one-time NBA Finals MVP. As we covered in another post, D-Wade took it outside and did his thing on the outdoor court and quickly left the scene in a fleet of executive GMC Denali’s, Hummers and Escalades that were nothing less than astounding.
Our trip thus far had been nothing short of extraordinary, but it was only to get better as we were waiting to attend Dwight Howard’s Adidas afterparty that night courtesy of Footaction. Only moments after we turned off the All-Star Celebrity game coached by Dwight Howard himself, we swiftly hopped in the rental car and zoomed to the Orlando Executive Airport where, to our unbridled amazement, Adidas was getting on down in a tricked out Airport hangar. As if the shuttle bus and red carpet treatment didn’t already prepare us for a wonderful evening, we think it was the slew of celebrity and athlete appearances that made it that much more worthwhile. A concert featuring Fabolous, DMC, B.O.B. and Young Jeezy was a thoroughly entertaining cap to an eventful night. We gathered what was left of our energy after the mind-blowing shindig and headed back to the resort in the wee hours of the morning. Little did we know what the rest of the weekend would bring.
