Ever since he was drafted in 2003 in the same legendary draft class as Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, Carmelo has established not only a star status with the Denver Nuggets and the New York Knicks, but he also has taken part in revolutionizing the basketball sneaker culture.  Coming into all star break fully healed from a small injury, Carmelo made his way to The Florida Mall’s Footaction to greet fans and discuss his newest sneaker, the Melo M8’s.

With DJ Khaled back on stage hosting the Carmelo Q&A session, the atmosphere for the Syracuse alum comprised of die hard Melo fans, some even traveling from New York/New Jersey to see him. And with fellow New York Knick, Jeremy Lin across the street, fans everywhere were dressed in blue and orange, hoping for a chance to catch a glimpse of Melo. For the third day in a row, fans that made it in had the chance to win free Carmelo t-shirts. Selected fans were asked to identify the Jordan in their hands using only their sense of touch, and some fans were asked Carmelo trivia.

As the Olympic gold medalist hit the stage, Carmelo discussed the details behind the M8. As stylish as he is on and off the court, Carmelo said his main focus in designing his eight signature sneaker was to keep it stylish, at the same time keeping it light for being able make nimble spontaneous movements. The All-Star forward also filled us in with the technological design process, emphasizing the importance of the Airbag and Flywire technology that is featured within the shoe. Branded with a new Melo logo, the M8 is slated for eight different color way releases this year for everyone to get their hands on.
