Reebok Classics x Kendrick Lamar “Classic Leather”
For the first time since 2008, Reebok Classics will return to Footaction. Even more exciting is the fact that the return will be for the company’s third official collaboration with Kendrick Lamar! Known for being one of the most enlightened celebrities, let alone rappers, of his generation, it is only fitting that Kendrick’s Classic Leather release is filled symbolism and, of course, fire shoe detailing.
The release takes the original Classic Leather silhouette and literally splits it in half. A seam running up the middle of the upper separates red (left shoe) and blue (right shoe) from the neutral colors of the shoe’s inner. The pops of color not only lend a unique asymmetrical character to the pair, but also represent the two largest gangs in Kendrick’s hometown of Los Angeles. Kendrick has long been a proponent of ending gang violence – a theme which can be found over and over in his lyrics. The shoe’s “split-seam” also represents Kendrick’s life and his struggle to balance music, fame, activism, and staying true to himself.
While Kendrick’s fame continues to rise – and for good reason – we’re proud to carry a silhouette with so much history in the sneaker game and a release with such obvious meaning woven into its design.
Designed in partnership with British designer Ian Paley, the Reebok Classics x Kendrick Lamar “Classic Leather” drops in stores and online on Friday, July 1st, and retails for $110.
