Throwback Thursday: Allen Iverson Storms Through LA in Game 1
Yesterday we took you to Flight School with Captain Allen Iverson as we explored the iconic Reebok Question. Today, we revisit one of the greatest individual performances in NBA history. The year was 2001 and the stars were seemingly aligned for Kobe and Shaq to achieve immortality together. They won 19 straight heading into the Finals against a scrappy Philadelphia 76ers squad and looked unbeatable. However, 5’11” point guard – excuse me, MVP point guard – Iverson would go onto drop 48 points in a OT Game 1 win in the Finals against the heavily favored Los Angeles Lakers – in LA nonetheless!
Though the Lakers would go onto win the series in convincing fashion, the message was clear: When AI was a his best, no one was better, no matter how big or beloved. He embraced his role as the underdog and moved mountains in sagged shorts. This one’s for
AI and the game that defined a career.
