Throwback Thursday: In Rotation – Kanye West’s The College Dropout (2004)
It seems like just yesterday that Kanye West was the only rapper in the game with “a Benz and a backpack.” With the release of the The College Dropout in 2004, ‘Ye established himself as one of the game’s freshest entertainers and most exciting rapper-slash-producers out. Since, he’s evolved into a more polarizing figure, sometimes casted as a loose cannon for providing stark social and political commentary through his music as well as impromptu rants on television. But his music STILL speaks for itself. It’s a far cry from the gospel ridden, borderline-conscious rap that filled The College Dropout’s track-listing but great nonetheless. In celebration of today’s Throwback Thursday, pop in Ye’s first classic and let it play through. And consider this: You’re listening to history. Preach on Mr. West.
